Indian Mounds Campground
in Sabine National Forest
Adjacent to Indiam Mounds Wilderness Area. There are RV and tent campsites. Developed campsites have drinking water faucets nearby, portable toilets nearby, table, tentpad, trash cans, tilt back grill and lantern posts. Undeveloped sites are paved and mowed only. The camping area has a boat ramp.
While you should check on fees, from 2000 – June, 2010 they have held steady at $4 per campsite and $2 per vehicle for day use.

Directions:
From the junction of Texas Highway 87 and Texas Highway 83 in Hemphill, Tx.:
- Take Highway 83 East 7 miles to Highway 3382
- Turn South on 3382 and go 3.9 miles to Indian Mounds Recreation Area.
- Along the way you will see signs to Indian Mounds Wilderness Area – don’t be confused – IT is WILDERNESS, not the Recreation Area.
The area is rich in wildflowers, ferns, mosses, liverworts, and fungi. It is the only place in Texas where Broad Beech Fern, Rattlesnake Fern, and Wedgegrass can be found. 168 species of birds have been identified in the area in addition to white-tailed deer, gray fox, raccoon, opossum, gray and fox squirrel, coyote, mink, weasel, and otter. .

| The area offers excellent opportunities for hunting waterfowl on the reservoir and hunting deer and squirrel outside of the campground area. Visitors can hike to the mounds for which the area is named. | |

| The area has improved camping units, each with a table, tent pad, grill and lantern post. Water hydrants, chemical flush toilets, and garbage cans are located near camping sites. There are no sites with electrical hookups. It is a great place for self-contained RV units, too! | |

| There are two camping areas laid out – the Crazy Horse Camping Loop and the Buffalo Hide Camping Loop – which provide plenty of room in this very under-used park. | |
